Flint Construction

All out Flint is thoroughly washed in its raw natural state, then the individual pieces of flint are mechanically cut down and dressed by an experienced team of knappers. They are then hand crafted into block form. The finished product gives you a clean, professional authentic look, with the correct spacing in between the flint pieces.

Block Installation

  • The Blocks are laid in the traditional form but with a tight 5 mm – 10 mm bed.
  • Once the blocks are laid and the beds stiffened, the desired pointing mix is made using a gauged mix for consistency.
  • We recommend a 50 / 50 mix of building sand and rendering sand to obtain an old-fashioned gritty finish which suits the look of the blocks.
  • When the mix has started to go off the bricklayer can start to cut in with a pointing knife around the flints to obtain the desired effect. When this is finished the wall can be brushed off to clean the flint faces of any mortar stains.
